The Science
How Does LED Therapy Work?
Various wavelengths and intensities of light have been shown to stimulate and encourage cellular productivity. LED or Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is a way to deliver those wavelengths to the skin to reap their benefits.
Red and infrared are the most common types of LLLT used to help reverse the visible signs of aging. Light is radiated onto the surface of the skin where it's absorbed and activates fibroblast cells, making skin more efficient at what it's meant to do: improve elasticity and repair or replace damaged cells to bring it to a healthier, more youthful-looking state.
Since LLLT simply uses nonthermal light to stimulate rather than destroy, it's far gentler on the skin than more invasive laser laser treatments which require licensed professionals in a clinical setting to safely provide.

Intrinsic Factors on Skin Aging
Have Stress?
In addition to the extrinsic factors, intrinsic factors caused by changes in the body (hormones,
stress, etc) impact skin appearance as one gets older.
Cells in younger skin take 28 days to remodel, but as you age, the turnover time increases and the
body takes longer to regenerate.
In time, the collagen in your skin slowly breaks down, and the body is not able to keep up the pace
of remodeling, causing the skin to become less elastic. As a result, the skin begins to sag, causing
wrinkles to appear on the face and body.

Extrinsic Factors on Skin Aging
Too much Sun?
As people age, extended exposure to environmental factors such as sunlight and cold weather
damages the cellular structure of human skin. In addition, pollution in the atmosphere creates
free radicals that can penetrate the skin’s surface, leading to even more damaging effects.
These are extrinsic factors that produce visible signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles,
sun spots, uneven skin tone, and laxity.

What are the benefits?
Narrow and wide-angled Red and Infrared LEDs
Red light wavelengths focus on the surface of the skin, while the greater number of iderma’s lights are infrared which affect the cells on a deeper level. iderma’s patented Derma-Pulse Technology™ uses both for optimal results. Combining this with narrow AND wide-angle LEDs allows full face coverage while still focusing each treatment on areas of the face where skin issues are most prevalent.

Does it work?
Where can I find LLLT research?
The research and study of Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) is extensive. For instance ,scientists at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have completed extensive research showing the many benefits of using Low-level Light Therapy (LLLT)and made many of their findings available on their website. In addition, multiple clinical studies have been published about the positive effects of LLLT on skin by physician members of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery’s (ASLMS). You can find links to many of these and related information from scientists and dermatologists on these organizations’ websites.
